Motsamai Keyecwe Mpho was born to a peasant family in Maun Bechuanaland (now Botswana) on 3 February His family came from a non-Setswana-speaking ethnic group, the Beyei.
Mpho attended Moremi Primary School in Maun, and after completion went to further his education in South Africa at Tiger Kloof, Vyrburg, matriculating in Mpho Maema is a human rights lawyer with eight years of experience in litigation and two years as an activist.
She founded the Women's Law Clinic inwhich deals with human rights-related issues, particularly for women and youth.
